Leigh Bish, Deaf InstructorLeigh is profoundly deaf and a fully qualified Deaf Instructor. He has worked here since 2002.
Leigh is involved in pastoral care for Year 7 and provides BSL support for all deaf pupils from Year 7 to 11 also 6th form students. Leigh is also an advocate for deaf students providing help and support in getting Freedom Passes for travel, independence advice etc. In 2009 Leigh became a qualified teacher and A1 (TAQA) Assessor in BSL Level 3 to 6, he teaches level 1 and 2 also will be teaching new level 3 in BSL next academic year at Thomas Tallis School and is also based at Signamic, London and Exeter, and CommunicationID, London. |
julia abrams, administrator Julia is the Administrator and Co ordinator to the BSL Deaf Instructors & Team. Her responsibilities include examination preparation, language modification, booking interpreters, classroom support, applying exam specifications to lesson plans, keeping abreast of current legislations and campaigns relating to Deaf issues, applying the Equality Act 2010 to deaf awareness training, dealing with public and student issues, classroom resources and presentations, finances, attending meetings and promoting BSL across the curriculum, school and local community.
Julia previously worked in London for a large banking organisation and then for 11 years headed the legal team for an International Publishers. She is currently a volunteer co-ordinator for the national charity Adoption UK and a Trustee for the charity People in Harmony. |
Lorna patton, bsl support workerLorna is a BSL / communication support worker, she can be found in classes supporting the Deaf Instructors. Her role includes language modification, setting up lesson plans, class-room resources and presentations, she also liaises with other deaf organisations. Lorna has many years experience working in the deaf world and environment, she set up Bromley Deaf Childrens Society in 1999, has been involved with deaf clubs, deaf advocacy work and has a wide knowledge of deaf awareness and deaf culture.
Lorna has also been on training courses pertaining deaf-blind issues. |
