"Early in the morning"Last Saturday, I had a bad dream and it woke me up. I looked at the clock and it was only half past five. My mum and dad was still asleep so is my brother. I lay there for a while but I was wide awake and couldn't get back to sleep. I got up and looked out the window. It was a beautiful summer morning and I decided to take my dogs out for a walk.
When I went into the Kitchen, two sleepy heads lifted up and looked at me. My two dogs (both sheepdogs), Marty and Shep, must have wondered what I was doing in the kitchen at the time of day. I said "Walk?" and they both leapt out of their basket. I wish I could wake up so quickly when its time for work. I clipped on their leads, slipped on my old blue sweater and off we went. We live right on the edge of town, so we have houses on one side and fields on the other. We walked over towards the field. It was so quiet; there was nobody else about. In the fields, I took the dog's leads off and let them run on ahead. At the end of the field, I crossed a bridge over a stream and followed the dogs into the woods. The early morning sun was shining through the trees. There was no wind and everything was very still. Eventually, I called the dogs to me. They stopped sniffing about and came running over. We walked out of the woods and back over the bridge. The field was still empty and I looked at my watch. It was only quarter to seven. Coming round the corner, I saw a milkman. He looked surprised to see me! He told me he doesn't usually see anyone on a Saturday morning. When I got home my family was still asleep. |
THE BIRTHDAY CAKETwo years ago, it was my Mum's 60th birthday. My family decided to arrange a surprise party for her. My Dad booked the hall, sorted out the food, drink and a band. My sister Emma, made the invitations and sent them out. We invited over 100 people. My Mum's favourite colour is hello, so all the invitations and decorations were yellow. My job was to find a cake, a yellow cake.
I live in London and my family live in Wales, so I arranged to catch a train to Cardiff the night before the party. Not far for my house is a specialist cake shop. There were cakes in lots of different shapes and colours; a football cake, a clock, a black cat. The week before the party, I went to the shop and ordered a simple cake, it was in the shape of the number 60 and covered in yellow icing and flowers. The night I was going to Cardiff arrived. I went to the shop to collect and pay for he cake on my way to the station. It looked beautiful but it was really heavy and I was worried I will drop it. Luckily, I only had a small rucksack that wasn't heavy. I walked down to the station slowly and carefully. When I got there I had to put the cake down on the seat, take the ticket out of my pocket, put in my mouth, pick up the cake and walk through the entry barrier. I got on the train and put the cake on the seat next to me. I soon fell asleep and when I woke up lots of people were getting on the train. I peered out of the window. We were in Cardiff! I jumped up and rushed off the train just as the door were closing. My Dad was waiting for me and asked " are you okay?" "I am fine, I just fell asleep." "Where's the cake then?" he asked, looking around. Suddenly I realised that it was still on the seat and I pointed to the disppearing train and said "On its way to Bangor, I think". |
